On this day in history (February 9,):

1895: Volley Ball was invented by W.G. Morgan.
1960: The first star was placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star was
for Joanne Woodward.
1964: The Beatles' First Appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show!  "Ladies and
gentlemen," intoned Sullivan, "the Beatles!" With that, the variety-show
host turned stiffly to the studio audience, gesturing for a reaction. His
prompting was utterly superfluous. The ecstatic screams of the
predominantly female audience all but drowned out Sullivan's next words:
"Let's bring them on!" As the Fab Four launched into "All My Loving," the
camera moved to the crowd, where a plump, dark-haired girl stood poleaxed,
in an advanced state of shock. Nearby, another girl couldn't stop bouncing,
clutching her hair, and screaming. As the band downshifted into the ballad
"Till There Was You," graphics appeared on the screen, identifying each of
the Beatles by name. Under John's tag, it read: "Sorry girls, he's
married." The frenzy reached a peak as the boys jolted into "She Loves
You," singing, "Yeah, yeah, yeah," and shaking their hair.
1969: The Boeing 747 flew its inaugural flight.
And today is:

National Bagels & Lox Day

Executive Summary:
National news headlines today are dominated with continued coverage of Rob Porter resigning from his White House following allegations of past domestic abuse, and preparations for the Winter Olympics' opening ceremony in South Korea today. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Chief of Naval Operations John M. Richardson, Marine Corps commandant Gen. Robert Neller and Coast Guard commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft met Thursday in a rare discussion chaired by retired Navy Adm. James Stavridis. During the discussion, CNO Richardson called on the Pentagon to reform the procurement process to keep pace with the Chinese Navy which is building increasingly sophisticated warships, aircraft and missiles. Additionally, speaking at WEST 2018, CNO Richardson stated that the FY 2019 budget, keeping in line with the six dimensions that he had previously described, aims to address capacity, capability, networks, sailor training, agile operations and readiness reports USNI News. According to the Hill, the House approved a sweeping budget deal early Friday morning that would fund the government through March 23, sending legislation to President Trump that would end a brief shutdown of the government that began at midnight.

The link to the MSN page that reprinted an "article" from Sovereign Man about the "obscure" court case in Rhode Island taking away pensions and scaring everyone about Social Security is really just an advertisement.  Simon Black, the author, claims to be a West Point graduate that now has seven passports (why?) and lives in Chile half the year.  What he's selling is his "investment strategies" and the way to do that is to scare everyone about whatever your current plans are.  Here's his About Me page from his website:  https://www.sovereignman.com/about/#simon  You have to read about half way down before it starts to become a sales pitch.

Although his "article" implies that Social Security "running out of money" in 2034 is either hidden or ignored, it has been part of every Federal political campaign for several decades, frankly ever since the Democrats bundled Social Security with the general fund for accounting purposes so they could show we weren't really in debt--IN THE SIXTIES.

At any rate, the article is really bogus regarding its intent.  He wants to scare people into signing up for his investment "bank."

Now, was that court case in RI accurately described?  Will the decision stand?  Is it as simple as he claims for promised benefits to be reduced?  Is this the first time this has happened?  If you're retired military, you can already look at your medical benefits and know the answer to that. So, what's the big surprise?

Social Security has really been misunderstood.  I get "calculations" in emails from friends all the time about how much money I could really have in retirement if I'd just put my own money away and made a mere 5% per year return instead of paying into Social Security.  I won't go into details here, but the numbers are absolutely ridiculous, mostly because the assumptions are completely bogus.  Suffice to say, Social Security was ALWAYS intended to be a Ponzi scheme.  They don't save your money for you; they take your money while you're working to pay those that are beneficiaries now.  If that weren't the way it was designed, it would have never gotten off the ground because the first ones to pay into the system wouldn't have received anything at all.  If you ever want to calculate what you put in versus what you'll get out (maybe), you have to remember "then-year dollars."  In other words, inflation has to be figured into the mix.  A dollar doesn't equal a dollar.  And "sure things" don't pay much at all.

Social Security wasn't designed to enable you to continue living at the standard of living you had become accustomed to at the time of retirement.  It was designed to keep you from starving or freezing to death.  Not much more than that.  If you want more, save more, invest more, plan better, and spend less.

I know.  Easier said than done.

Just to add to my previous comments about the Sovereign Man "article" (advertisement):

Here is a link to the actual Appeals Court Decision:  http://media.ca1.uscourts.gov/pdf.opinions/17-1293P-01A.pdf

I recommend reading it.  It's actually easy reading for a court document.  What it shows (at least to me) is that Simon Black the author of the "article" seeking to scare people into becoming his clients has completely misinterpreted (intentionally) the court case, the findings, and their importance.

If there's one lesson I learned as I became senior enough to be offered options begging for decision:  There's AT LEAST two sides to every story.

We should stop getting our exercise by jumping to conclusions.

ROLLING THUNDER REMEMBERED… 9 FEBRUARY 1968… "THE QUANG TIN DOCUMENT"…

February 9, 2018   Bear Taylor
RIPPLE SALVO… #706… "THE UNITED STATES WAS SURPRISED BY THE 1968 TET OFFENSIVE…" Why? … Didn't any of our intelligent intelligence guys see, read and figure out what the "Quang Tin Document" foretold? ….but first…
Good Morning: Day SEVEN HUNDRED SIX of another look at what was going on fifty years ago in and over Vietnam where 58,000 American warriors were laying down their lives for their country, our country… They are to never be forgotten… remembering is what happens here…
9 FEBRUARY 1968… HEAD LINES from The New York Times on a cloudy Friday with snow flurries among the tall buildings…
TET OFFENSIVE: Page 1: "56 MARINES DIE IN BATTLE IN TENSE NORTHERN SECTOR–21 AMERICANS KILLED IN ASSAULT ON HILL AT KHESANH–Enemy's Toll Is 124–Officers Firm On Holding Base"… "Fifty-six marines were killed and 123 wounded yesterday in a series of actions in the tense northernmost provinces of South Vietnam. One of the more grueling battles took place only two miles north-northwest of the Marine outpost at Khesanh in a hill position defending the base. Twenty-one marines were killed and 27 wounded in the attack. The United States command announcing the battle, said that 124 enemy soldiers had been killed. High military officials said yesterday that the United States was prepared to defend Khesanh at all costs. With the fall of the nearby Special Forces camp at Langvei Wednesday, the military command has re-examined allied strategy in the Khesanh bastion. 'We are going to proceed,' a high American officer said. 'We feel we can handle it.'"… "An American spokesman said that North Vietnamese troops ambushed a Untied States Marine convoy trying to reach Hue, killing 20 marines and wounding 39, Reuters reported"… "South of Danang, United States troops temporarily trapped an enemy force and killed 152 in heavy fighting…15 Americans were killed and 63 wounded."… "In Saigon scattered street fighting continued in the southwestern section, but the rest of the city began to return to normal… a spokesman estimated that between 700 and 1,000 enemy soldiers remained in the city, 300 of them were in the vicinity of the race track."… "Officials are adamant in their determination to keep Khesanh. 'We've got to secure Hue and Danang and Quangtri,' said an official, referring to the three key cities in the northernmost provinces. 'Khesanh is one of the parts of that mission.' "…

WHAT IF ALL ILLEGALS LEFT THE STATES.........

Considering the Denver Post is a very liberal paper I'm surprised they
published this.  This really shows how the hiring of illegal's is a false
economic practice.

Tina Griego is a Free-Lance reporter for the Denver Post.  She writes some really good stuff and she is a strong advocate for LEGAL Immigration homework on issues is part of her make-up and fabric ...

What if they left?

Not Democratic, not Republican, not liberal and not conservative. Just the facts by a good reporter!

What if 20 Million Illegal Aliens Vacated America? I, Tina Griego, journalist for the Denver Rocky Mountain News wrote a column
titled,  "Mexican Visitor's Lament."

I interviewed Mexican journalist Evangelina Hernandez while visiting Denver last week.   Hernandez said, "Illegal aliens pay rent, buy groceries, buy clothes.  What happens to your country's economy if 20 million people go away?"

Hmmm, I thought, what would happen?

So I did my due diligence, buried my nose as a reporter into the FACTS I found below.

It's a good question...  it deserves an honest answer.     Over 80% of Americans demand secured borders. What would happen if all 20 million or more vacated America?   This may surprise you!

In California, if 3.5 million illegal aliens moved back to Mexico, it would leave an extra $10.2 billion to spend on overloaded school systems, bankrupt hospitals and overrun prisons.    It would leave highways cleaner, safer and less congested.  Everyone could understand one another as English became the dominant language again.

It means 12,000 gang members would vanish out of Denver alone. Colorado would save more than $20 million in prison costs, and the terror that those 7,300 alien criminals  set upon local citizens. Denver Officer Don Young and hundreds of Colorado victims would not have suffered death, accidents, rapes and other crimes by illegals.

Denver Public Schools would not suffer a 67% dropout/flunk rate because of thousands of illegal alien students speaking 41 different languages.  Denver's 4% unemployment rate would vanish as our working poor would gain jobs at a living wage.

In Chicago, Illinois, 2.1 million illegals would free up hospitals, schools, prisons and highways for a safer, cleaner and more crime-free experience.

If 20 million illegal aliens returned 'home,' the U.S.  economy would return to the rule of law.  Employers would hire legal American citizens at a living wage.  Everyone would pay their fair share of taxes because they wouldn't be working off the books.  That would result in an additional $401 billion in IRS income taxes collected annually, and an equal amount for local, state and city coffers.

No more confusion in American schools that now must  contend with over 100 languages that degrade the educational system for American kids.  Our overcrowded schools would lose more than two million illegal alien kids at a cost of billions in ESL and free breakfasts and lunches.

We would lose 500,000 illegal criminal alien inmates at a cost of more than $1.6 billion annually. That includes 15,000 MS-13 gang members who distribute $130 billion in drugs annually would vacate our country.

In cities like L.A., 20,000 members of the ' 18th Street Gang' would vanish from our nation.  No more Mexican forgery gangs for ID theft from Americans! No more foreign rapists and child molesters!

America 's economy is drained.  Taxpayers are harmed.  Employers get rich. Over $80 billion annually wouldn't return to the aliens' home countries by cash transfers. Illegal migrants earned half that money untaxed, which further drains America's economy which currently suffers a $20 trillion debt.  $20 trillion debt!!!

At least 400,000 anchor babies would not be born in our country, costing us $109 billion per year per cycle. At least 86 hospitals in California, Georgia and Florida would still be operating instead of being bankrupt out of  existence because illegals pay nothing via the EMTOLA Act.

Americans wouldn't suffer thousands of TB and hepatitis cases rampant in our country - brought in by illegals unscreened at our borders.  Our cities would see 20 million less people driving, polluting and grid locking our cities' greenhouse gases.

Over one million of Mexico's poorest citizens now live inside and along our border from Brownsville, Texas, to San Diego, California, in what the New York Times called, 'colonias' or new neighborhoods.  Trouble is, those living areas resemble Bombay and Calcutta where grinding poverty, filth, diseases, drugs, crimes,  no sanitation and worse.  They live without sewage, clean water, streets, roads, electricity, or any kind of sanitation.

The New York Times reported them to be America's new ' Third World ' inside our own country. Within 20 years, at their current growth rate, they expect 20 million residents of those colonias.  (I've seen them personally in Texas and Arizona; it's sickening beyond anything you can imagine.)

We already invite a million people into our country legally/annually, more than all other countries combined- with growing anarchy at our borders.

It's time to stand up for our country, our culture, our civilization and our way of life.  Interesting Statistics below!

Here are 13 reasons illegal aliens should vacate America, and I hope they are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them:

1.  $14 billion to $22 billion dollars are spent each year on welfare to illegal aliens (that's Billion with a 'B')
2.  $7.5 billion dollars are spent each year on Medicaid for illegal aliens.
3.  $12 billion dollars are spent each year on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally and they still cannot speak a word of English
4.  $27 billion dollars are spent each year for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens,  known as anchor babies.
5.  $3 Million Dollars 'PER DAY' is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens. That's $1.2 Billion a year.
6.  28% percent of all federal prison inmates are illegal aliens.
7.  $190 billion dollars are spent each year on illegal aliens for welfare & social services by the American taxpayers.

8.  $200 billion dollars per year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens.
9.  The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children, are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US.
10.  During the year 2005, there were 8 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our southern border with as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from other terrorist countries.  Over 10,000 of those were middle-eastern terrorists. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroin, crack, guns, and marijuana crossed into the U.S.  from the southern border.
11.  The National Policy Institute, estimates that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion, or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.
12.  In 2006, illegal aliens sent home $65 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin, to their families and friends.
13.  The dark side of illegal immigration: Nearly one million sex crimes are committed by illegal immigrants in the United States!

Total cost a whopping $538.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!

The Truth On What Energy Drinks Are Doing To Kids

Teens who consume too many energy drinks are also known to suffer from dehydration, tremors, heat stroke and heart attacks. Now the focus is on behavior. Are energy drinks turning teens into hyperactive, unhealthy, disobedient delinquents? Public perceptions seem to be shifting towards believing that.

Item Number:1 Date: 02/09/2018 CHINA - BEIJING DEPLOYS ADVANCED FIGHTERS TO SOUTH CHINA SEA IN ANTICIPATION OF U.S. CARRIER'S ARRIVAL (FEB 09/ASIA)  ASIA TIMES -- Beijing has moved a number of Su-35 and J-20 fighter jets close to the South China Sea in anticipation of the arrival of a U.S. aircraft carrier, reports Asia Times.   The People's Liberation Army announced the move on Wednesday, saying that it was preparing "pragmatic" drills in the area, reported the Daily Star (U.K.).   Xu Guangyu, a retired military general and PLA advisor, said the drills were in response to U.S. provocations in the region.   A separate Chinese announcement on Friday confirmed that the J-20 had entered combat service, reported the South China Morning Post.   The U.S. last month announced its intention to send an aircraft carrier to Vietnam. The Nimitz-class carrier, USS Carl Vinson, is expected to arrive next month.
Item Number:2 Date: 02/09/2018 COLOMBIA - ELN ANNOUNCES STRIKE IN EFFORT TO FORCE GOVERNMENT BACK TO TALKS (FEB 09/CR)  COLOMBIA REPORTS -- The National Liberation Army (ELN), Colombia's largest remaining militant group, has declared an "armed strike" in areas it controls, reports Colombia Reports.   The shutdown, to take place between Feb. 10 and Feb. 13, was announced on Wednesday by "Uriel," the ELN commander in Colombia's western Choco province.   "All ELN units have been informed" about the strike, which will attempt to cut off all commercial and transport activity in areas under the group's control.   The objective is to force President Juan Manuel Santos back to the table for talks over a bilateral cease-fire.   Santos suspended the negotiations last month after both parties failed to agree to a renewal of a three-month cease-fire. The ELN launched a number of attacks immediately after the cease-fire ended.
Item Number:3 Date: 02/09/2018 EGYPT - ARMY LAUNCHES ANTI-MILITANT PUSH AHEAD OF ELECTIONS (FEB 09/ALJAZ)  AL JAZEERA -- Egyptian security forces have launched a "comprehensive" security operation against armed groups in the Sinai Peninsula, parts of the Nile Delta and the Western Desert, reports Al Jazeera (Qatar).   An army spokesman announced the operation Friday, asking Egyptians to report any suspicious activity to authorities.   The operation is intended to end the Islamic State insurgency by the end of February, a deadline set by President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi in November, reported Reuters. It also comes ahead of elections in March, which Sisi is expected to win.   "Comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018" includes air, land and sea elements, noted Ahram Online (Egypt).   The objective is to "tighten control of the country's crossing points with neighboring countries and to cleanse the areas that are terrorist strongholds," the military said, as cited by the Washington Post.   Witnesses reported heavy air activity in the city of Ismailia, near the Suez Canal.   Egypt has fought armed terrorist groups for years, including the Islamic State-linked Sinai Province.
Item Number:5 Date: 02/09/2018 GREECE - TERRORIST HITMAN OUT OF PRISON ON LEAVE (FEB 09/KATH)  KATHIMERINI -- A leading member of one of Greece's most-notorious left-wing terror groups has been released from prison for a two-day leave, amid U.S. opposition to the move, reports the Kathimerini newspaper (Athens).   Dimitris Koufodinas, a leading member of November 17, one of Greece's deadliest guerrilla groups, left Athens' Korydallos prison on Friday.   The leave follows a furlough less than three months ago, the newspaper noted.   Opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, whose brother was killed by November 17, said that laws granting violent criminals leave will be among the first to be abolished if his party takes power.   "We fundamentally believe that convicted terrorists do not deserve a vacation from prison," said the U.S. State Dept. on Thursday.   The British ambassador to Greece, Kate Smith, also expressed her opposition to the move.   Koufodinas, 60, is serving 11 life sentences for playing a key role -- allegedly as a hitman -- in a series of killings by the group.
Item Number:7 Date: 02/09/2018 IRAQ - ARMY KICKS OFF OPERATION AGAINST ISIS IN SALADIN PROVINCE (FEB 09/VOA)  VOICE OF AMERICA NEWS -- The Iraqi army, supported by Shi'ite Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) militias, has launched an operation against Islamic State militants in the country's northern Saladin province, reports the Voice of America News.   The operation, which began on Wednesday, targets ISIS fighters regrouping in the Tuz Khurmatu district in the northeastern part of Saladin province, according to the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.   Government forces have destroyed 50 ISIS targets and recaptured five oilfields and several villages, the military said. The U.S.-led coalition has provided air support and the operation is being coordinated with Kurdish peshmerga forces, said the statement.   The security forces will withdraw from Kurdish villages once the operation concludes, said the Kurdish commander in Tuz Khurmatu.   The district is among those that are disputed by the federal government in Baghdad and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.   The mission also targeted two new militant groups, known as the White Banners and the Liberation Army, said a spokesman for the PMF.
Item Number:8 Date: 02/09/2018 ISRAEL - IAI MAKES PUBLIC NEW ADVANCED TOWED DECOY (FEB 09/IAI)  ISRAEL AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES -- Israel Aerospace Industries has revealed a new towed decoy electronic warfare system for aircraft self-protection.   The EL/L-8270 is completely autonomous and does not require power or signals from the towing aircraft, said an IAI release on Feb. 7.   The decoy is designed to be deployed at a safe distance from its host aircraft and emit a signal to attract hostile missiles.   The system can deal with several threats simultaneously.   The lightweight decoy can be employed by all types of aircraft and can be rolled back into the host aircraft or jettisoned after use, the company said.
Item Number:10 Date: 02/09/2018 NORTH KOREA - MILITARY PARADE OFFERS LOOK AT NORTH'S MISSILE CAPABILITIES (FEB 09/DN)  DEFENSE NEWS -- A North Korean military parade on the eve of the Olympics has provided a rare look at the country's missile arsenal, reports Defense News.   Reviewing images and video from Thursday's parade, analysts and observers gained additional insight into the secretive country's capabilities.   Some missiles, including the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile, were carried on nine-axle transporter-erector-launchers (TELs), which are believed to be modified Chinese WS512000 logging trucks.   Three Hwasong-14 ICBMs were carried by semi-truck tractor trailers instead of TELs. The WS512000 trucks are believed to be in short supply in North Korea, hampering its missile capabilities.   The only new arms debuted during the parade were upgraded KN-02 short-range ballistic missiles.   Some missiles were also notably absent, said analysts. These included the Hwasong-13 and Scud missile variants introduced recently by Pyongyang
Item Number:12 Date: 02/09/2018 SOMALIA - ROADSIDE BOMB KILLS 2 SOLDIERS IN AFGOYE DISTRICT (FEB 09/SHABELLE)  SHABELLE MEDIA NETWORK -- At least two Somali soldiers have been killed in a roadside bombing in the Afgoye district in Somalia's southern Lower Shabelle region, reports the Shabelle Media Network (Mogadishu).   A remote-controlled improvised explosive device was set off on Wednesday night at a security checkpoint near the town of Afgoye, said police officials cited by Xinhua, China's state news agency.   Several soldiers were injured in the blast.   Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, saying five soldiers were killed and four wounded
Item Number:13 Date: 02/09/2018 SYRIA - KURDISH FORCES CAPTURE LAST 2 MEMBERS OF INFAMOUS 'BEATLES' CELL WITHIN ISIS (FEB 09/NYT)  NEW YORK TIMES -- The last two remaining members of an Islamic State torture cell have been captured by Kurdish forces in Syria, reports the New York Times.   Alexanda Kotey, 34, and El Shafee Elsheikh, 29, were members of "the Beatles," four British members of ISIS who were notorious for their cruelty.   The U.S. government says the group beheaded more than 27 hostages.   Kotey and Elsheikh have reportedly revealed valuable intelligence on the ISIS leadership and structure, reported Sky News (U.K.).   Their capture was revealed Wednesday by several confidential U.S. sources.   The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces said that American officials were informed of the capture in mid-January.   The cell's other two members were Mohammed Emwazi and Aine Davis. Emwazi was killed in 2015. Davis was jailed in Turkey in 2017
Item Number:16 Date: 02/09/2018 USA - MARINES ORDER INSTANTEYE DRONES FOR SQUADS (FEB 09/INSEYE)  INSTANTEYE ROBOTICS -- The U.S. Marine Corps has ordered additional InstantEye quadcopter unmanned aircraft, reports the Andover, Mass.-based manufacturer, InstantEye Robotics.   The latest order covers 800 InstantEye Mk 2 GEN3-A0 small unmanned aircraft systems that will support Marine infantry squads, the company said in a release on Feb. 6.   The InstantEye Mk 2 GEN3 is the mid-size member of the drone family and can carry payloads up to 1.5 pounds (0.7 kg). The GEN4 can carry a payload of up to 4 pounds (1.8 kg), while the GEN5 is the smallest variant.   All of the systems are capable of all weather, day and night operations and are designed to be easy to operate. The air vehicles can interface with a variety of external payloads that can be attached as required, company officials said.
